Patrick Downing portrait

Patrick Downing joined the West Music family in July 2009, and he has had the honor and pleasure of helping many people throughout the Quad Cities region choose the perfect piano for their needs – whether it be a piano for the home, church, business, school, college/university, or performing arts venue. He is a graduate of William Steinway University earning certifications with Steinway & Sons, Boston, and Essex pianos, and he has received extensive training with Yamaha acoustic, digital, and hybrid pianos. A musician since he began piano lessons at seven years old, Patrick is honored to be working for a company and industry that allows him to affect the lives of so many people from all walks of life through participation in music. Additionally, he is grateful for all of the incredible relationships established from being actively involved with music and the performing arts throughout his life.

He is a native of Marceline, Missouri (the boyhood home of Walt Disney) and grew up in Southeastern Iowa. Patrick’s earliest memory of making music is routinely pounding on his grandparents’ baby grand piano when he was just a toddler. Thankfully for his grandparents (and their neighbors within a 5-mile radius), Patrick’s parents suggested that he should take piano lessons! In school, he learned to play the alto and baritone saxophone and also sang in concert choirs and show choirs in Jr. High and High School. Patrick attended Western Illinois University in Macomb where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Business, with minors in Broadcasting and Marketing. At WIU, Patrick was very active in the vocal music program singing in choral ensembles as well as opera productions. He studied piano with Dr. Tammie Walker throughout his tenure at Western Illinois. One of the most rewarding experiences of his career came during his college years when he was accepted into the prestigious internship program at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Patrick and his wife, Kristena, are both active musicians in the Quad Cities area, and they reside in Davenport, IA with their son, Isaac. They are also proud “dog parents” of their Greyhound, Bird, named after jazz saxophonist, Charlie Parker. Patrick is a member of Quad City Choral Arts and Quad City Music Guild, as well as a member of the 100-voice Sanctuary Choir at his church. He plays piano throughout the region as a soloist, accompanist, and worship leader. When not at work, rehearsing, or performing, Patrick enjoys spending time with Kristena and Isaac, taking Bird for long walks in their neighborhood, reading a good book, being a movie-buff, and cheering on his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals!
