Join us on Monday evening, September 15 at 5pm for our Genesis Doctors in Recital Preview Party, which includes a complimentary screening of Note by Note: The Making of Steinway L1037 and the unveiling of the “Note by Note” Steinway – the actual piano constructed in the feature-length documentary!
In this film, you’ll hear the personal tales and stories from the piano makers themselves as they provide amazing insight into the tremendous tasks they perform day-after-day. You’ll see every stage of the Steinway piano manufacturing process – from the forests of Sitka, Alaska to Carnegie Hall in New York City. Filmed in key Steinway locations – the factory, Steinway Hall, Steinway’s reserved “Bank,” and private auditions – Note By Note is a loving celebration of not just craftsmanship, but of a dying breed of person who is deeply connected to working by hand.
Note By Note features interviews with world-class pianists who have fallen in love with the unique personalities of the Steinway piano. The musicians include Lang Lang, Hélène Grimaud, Harry Connick, Jr., Marcus Roberts, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Kenny Barron, Bill Charlap, and the late Hank Jones. You’ll hear their Steinway stories, their view of the relationship between musician and instrument, and what inspired them to play the piano. Viewers will especially enjoy Lang Lang’s ties with Franz Liszt’s masterpiece, Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 – a story that all began with a “Tom and Jerry” cartoon!
Along with the special screening of Note by Note, wine, cheese, and h’ordeuvres will be provided Gendler’s Wine and Spirits for $15 per person.
